My 1 yo rooster has been acting sick lately so I decided to pick him up and noticed a bump on his back close to the wing area. It’s a black bump and somehow has a feather or two growing on it? He sleeps on the roosts if that helps. I’m leaning towards it being a tumor because I’ve had some chickens in the coop get marek’s. Could it be related to marek’s. Is it treatable? Help me out here. I wouldn’t want to lose him. He’s a kind fellow. I don’t have a picture as of yet but I will try to get one out here hopefully today. Thanks In advance

Sorry for the wait. It’s been raining all week and I couldn’t snap a picture of it by myself. I took it off and this is what it looks like. Should I be worried?
It wasn’t all that hard to take off. It was attached by that green looking thingy. It looked like he didn’t feel much pain

How is he acting now?

A photo of him, his poop and where that material was attached would be nice.

To me it looks like it may have been a feather cyst, but hard to know.

If where it came off is raw then you will want to clean it daily with a little chlorhexidine.

Look him over well for lice/mites, see that his crop is emptying and that he's drinking well and eating a nutritionally balanced poultry feed.

he’s doing fine. There’s days where he seems down but he was looked good today. The area doesn’t look raw. It was attached on his back near where the wing area starts. A few pictures of him and my 2 other roosters.

I'd just monitor him then. See that he's eating/drinking o.k., crop is emptying and check for lice/mites frequently.

His crop isn’t emptying. It was full when I came to feed him this morning. He didn’t want to eat and stands at the corner of the run. I massaged the crop a bit. It’s squishy and I can feel all the food in there. What do I do now?

I would try some chilled coconut oil cut into small pieces to offer to peck, 1 tsp up to twice a day. Check it again in early morning before he eats or drinks. Here is a good article about crops:

Thanks for the info. Looked online and it said to give him olive oil. I gave him 3 ml of olive oil. I’ll massage his crop in a few minutes. I’ll try the chilled coconut when I come out later. Thanks again.
