Shortly after we started caring for our flock of chickens, we noticed something was missing. Our run was setup really well, or at least we thought, till we noticed some hens finding creative places to roost. This led to a lot of extra work on our behalf, cleaning the lids of feeders, waterers, basically anything they could perch on, almost on a daily basis. It soon became very evident that we needed more places for our chickens to perch, prune, and just be chickens.
We started to research some options online, and were only able to come up with boring styles of perches, that were really not very versatile. We tried roosts that had several perches at the same height, not a good idea. Instead of "preventing pecking", by having all of our chicks perching at the same level. Those other perches allowed the dominant chickens to easily reach those on the lower end of the pecking-order. Other perches were simply too small, maybe accommodating 2 or 3 birds at a time.
This is when we realized that we needed to create something new, that could serve multiple needs. Say HELLO to The Rockin' Roost. With it's 3 - roosts, that are each 30" in length, there is plenty of sitting room for several hens or roosters, to take a break together. With an overall height of just 24", and length of 40", it is compact enough to fit in almost every Chickeneer's habitat. (More sizes coming soon!) And probably one of the most unique features, it really ROCKS! The Rockin' Roost is not a static roost, it rocks back-and-forth when chickens land on it, or hop from roost-to-roost. This simulates a much more natural environment, and we have found that our chickens really love it!
