Tanning light for chicks? (ASAP)

For anyone in the future who wants to know about if this odd idea worked:
The tanning light did work. I kept them in the laundry room which is about 65 degrees. The tanning light produced 80+ degree heat (I can't know if more, the thermometor was for the fridge.) I turned it on over them and they were the perfect temp, running happily around. At night I used a radiant heater (The room is small) that way they could have darkness, and, well, the light just isn't meant to stay on all the time.
