Has anyone ordered from the Cackle Hatchery? I found their website on the internet and they offer "clean leg, straight run" bantam chics. This would be a variety of breeds. The thing I like about their offer is that you can order as few as five.

Also, I should know this, but what exactly does "straight run" refer to?

Thank you for all your wonderful information & ideas.

Straight run always means "not sexed" as in either the hatchery can't sex chicks or they won't. So you will get both males and females in a straight run order. Also there are no hatcheries that sell sexed bantams. They are simply too small. Good luck

I have never had nor seen an instance where a straight run order was less than 60% cockrels.

I like straight run though cuz I cull, kill, and eat the overages.

Most hatcheries will not or cannot sex bantam chicks so they fill your order as they hatch. I.e you order 25, 25 hatch, you get them in the order they hatch in. No telling what will be in there gender wise.
