Hi. I am new to raising chickens myself as we just got an acre of land in nw Arizona. I am so excited to start my own new flock! I remember my Grandparents had chickens and we loved them. Our coop/ run is almost finished but I am waiting until early March to get chicks or eggs to hatch. I am doing lots of research on the different breeds which is how I found this thread. I want to raise a healthy group that will do well in our hot summers. Thanks for accepting me as I have learned so much already.

Welcome to BYC.
:yesss: We are glad you joined this flock!
Jump right in and make yourself at home.
I live in hot Houston, TX and I have both breeds in your poll.
If I had to chose one I would choose the Australorp in a heartbeat.
Great layers. Wyandotte not as great.

Living in Texas this summer with the very extreme heat and drought I have been really surprised by my chickens. I did not know what breeds did well when I bought them. I have a Cuckoo Maran, Buff Minorca, Red Star sexlink and most surprising, a Russian Orlof. I found out after I had them that the little Russian girl was developed for Siberia! Well, she and the others are laying an egg almost every day. This is their second summer. They don’t get out much but are real happy when they do............ WELCOME!!..................Also... another list......
    Popular Heat-Tolerant Breeds

    Black Australorp
    Brahma
    Delaware
    Leghorn
    New Hampshire Red
    Plymouth Rock
    Rhode Island Red
