hey all!

What would you recommend for space requirement for...

Dutch bantams
Call ducks
Standard ducks
Smallish chickens (e.g silkie)
standard chickens (e.g RIR)

I know this may be a basic question, but there are soooo many different answers out there it’s ridiculous. Please give inside (coop) and outside (run) measurements in feet

Thanks in advance.

P.s the birds will be let out to roam round a larger area at a minimum of every few days, this is because I want multiple roosters but I don’t want them fighting so they will work in a system e.g one flock gets let out one day, another the day after that and then another after that etc etc

There are no hard numbers...too many variables.

The 4sqft per bird in coop and 10sqft in run 'rule of thumb' is a decent place to start,
but an absolute bare minimum (IMO) for birds confined the majority of the time.

Good article linked in my signature about Space.

This is from the American Poultry Associations website. I do agree with @aart that if your birds will not have access to an attached covered run then you should give each bird 4 sq ft in the coop

My goal is NOT to have battery bird conditions! My chickens have at least five sq. ft. per bird, and that includes bantams. More space means fewer problems; crowding causes issues.
