Slumped tail and limp

[can't get enough chicken]

My hen is 8 years old and about a year ago she got a small limp but it didn't seem to affect her. This morning she didn't leave the coop and can barely walk on the leg. She is also hanging her butt low to the ground and has poop on her feathers. Is this a healthy poop or can it tell me if something is wrong?

There is a large variety of normal chicken poop.

Tail down and head tucked in are chicken signs of “I don’t feel well.” Can you post pictures of the bottom of the foot she isn’t wanting to use? Did it or that leg ever swell?

There are lots of reasons they may limp as well. BYCers can try to help you figure this out.

Just found that the skin right where her feathers start is bright green under the feathers. What could this mean?
The bottom of her feet look completely normal.

What the.... My first thought was a bruise but it’s green. Like really green.

Anyone seen this color green?

It looks almost fluid filled too? It could be an injury and what’s causing the limp. Is the skin next to the green reddish or warm? Those I would think signal infection.

I don't think it is fluid filled. It gets less and less green as it goes up her leg and then fades into normal coloured skin. Doesn't appear to be warm.

I’m thinking bruise but I admit I’m surprised by the color.
Hopefully someone I tagged will chime in.
