Hello,

I am brand new to the art of chicken keeping, and have just invested in three point of lay chooks. I bought them from a local farm supplies shop, which receives regular deliveries from local breeders. However, all they could tell me was that I had a red chicken, a black one and a grey one!! (I live in south-west France, where most locals are more concerned with the number of eggs they get rather than the name of the breed!)
Being so green, I have absolutely no idea what breed they could be - I looked at pictures online, but just got even more confused! Any suggestions as to what 'make' my girls are would be welcome!

The 'black' one

The 'red' one

The 'grey' one

This is a close up of 'Cinders' (the grey one - not very original I know!) - also posted in the diseases/cures section as she is gurgling occasionally and has a swollen eye (the other side). I didn't realise combs were so important in identification. A blue copper marans sounds terribly exotic !!

Thanks hdowden - I feel like I know a little bit more about my girls now!
