One of my BCM hens prolapsed. I tried to save her but just could not get her body to accept my putting it back in. After doing a lousy necropsy, I found one large lash egg and several smaller ones. She was only a 2nd year layer so MANY eggs in her. I have never had lash egg problems before and not finding any good research so far to see if there is something I need to change. Any advice is welcome! https://mightytext.net/zyeNtj. She was a tad overly fatted, good crop content and gizzard was full. Free range with layer available fermented layer feed at demand. Plenty of exercise, no restrictions.

Sorry for your loss. A prolapse is caused by straining to lay an egg, lash egg, constipation, or too large of eggs. Salpingitis is fairly common in hens. There can be bacteria such as E.coli, mycoplasma, or other common bacteria can enter the oviduct via the vent or from the abdomen from the bloodstream. Most times when it is discovered from symptoms, it is too late to help with antibiotic treatment.

I would just make sure that your coop is routinely cleaned out and bedding is dry and fresh. Vent pecking behavior from other chickens is apparently another risk of infection. Lastly, keeping hens at a moderate healthy weight by limiting treats and table scraps, with a balanced layer feed is what they need most.
