I have a PR who has been getting crooked toes. She’s had a bald butt for a while and I always though it was from the poop build up but instead of new feathers she sometimes gets bumps like a pimple but they get big like almost a grape size. They dissapear after a little bit and she’s always been fine. Eating, drinking, walking. I do catch her sometimes laying down but they all do that sometimes. I have two PR and the other one it’s fine and not having any of the same traits this one has. The PR who’s been having these things happen also have a heavy belly if that’s a way to put it. Near her butt her belly seems to be full. I wouldn’t say swollen or hurt because she lets me touch it and she’s fine. She’s also heavier then my other PR. The pictures aren’t that great but does anyone know what could be going on? She has laid a few eggs I beilve but its been a while of no eggs from her but she’s showing no signs have egg bound. And it’s been a while.

How old are they and what exactly are you feeding them and how much per bird?

When getting on in age some breeds tend to accumulate fat in their lower abdomen if fed too much carbohydrates.

The fat can lead to problems with egg laying as it litetally can block the passage and eggs will reverse and end up in the abdomen.

Please, wash her butt carefully to avoid deadly fly strike. You can trim her butt fluff so the poop will not get stuck so easily.

And also trim the overgrown nails as they cause her toes to bend sideways.

They are four. They eat all flock feed crumbles. I have two bowls in the run that contains the feed. I’ll trim her butt feathers tomorrow and cut her nails soon. Is there anything else I can help her?

Maybe let her have grated carrots served with a bit of germ oil and some natural greek yoghurt to provide some natural food/vitamins and just a bit of animal protein. Scrambled or hard boiled egg twice a week would help too.
Okay thank you! I’m hoping she starts to molt soon maybe that could help her too.
