Hello all! I’m in central Oklahoma and I just started raising a little backyard flock. I have four lovely birds right now: Moira, Twyla, Goldie, and Pepper(mint).
The Schitt’s Creek girls are Black Star sex links that just started laying this month.
Goldie is a red sex link who is close to laying and Pepper is a Delaware who isn’t far behind in laying.
I am really enjoying this stage of chicken keeping! Finding an egg is still novel and exciting and I’m not dealing with the madness that was raising baby chicks. I feel odd saying that because most people love the tiny chick stage and they were very cute but I like that they are more independent now.
I am looking to add two more birds to my little crew if anyone in Central OK is selling or rehoming some pullets/hens in their first laying season.
We built our chicken run from scratch and I am crazy proud of us. I’ve been gardening for a few years and I love sitting outside watching the chickens goof around in the plants. They free range around the backyard most of the day and seem like happy little hens.
I’d like to join any Oklahoma groups if someone can point me in the right direction. I see “subscribe to thread” written everywhere but all I see is the bookmark button. I’m only in my third decade and technology already eludes me!
