Official BYC Poll: Where Do Your Chickens Dust Bathe?

My girls have 2 or 3 spots they like for baths currently, the one they actually dug this morning and 3 of the 4 squeezed into it.

#1 best place: in the cool gravel under the carport.

#2 best spot: in the flower garden next to the back step, mashing my daffodils! (Grrr!)

#3 best spot: under the tree where the old sand box used to be, 40 or 50 years ago. You go, girls!

Mine destroy the garden and make holes in the yard. I have rolled my ankle so much because of them.

My hens dust bath on the hemp bedding on the floor of the run, only when it's sunny though. My cuddly chick likes to take a dust bath on my lap while I give her belly rubs, which she still enjoys after 4 weeks of it.

I am actually planning to give them a large pot or area to dust bath in, do you put sand or something else?

Besides all the places I provide they seem to be pretty ingenious and come up with some interesting spots under saw palmettos or in an old fire pile that’s been cooling for many days. I wish I could figure out how to post video I have one hysterical one in an old fire pile with the end being a big “POOF” always the white ones in the grey ashes too

Mine dig wherever they like, although the BEST places are clearly anywhere their human has perennial flowers planted. Bonus: Not only can they dust bathe, they can nibble on those tasty green things she's trying to grow.
