Well my family all picked a breed and then named them. My mom has a Speckled Sussex named Lola, My dad has a Black Australorp named Queenie,my brother Max has an Easter Egger named Rainbow, my other brother Henry has a Buff Orpington named Elizabeth,I have a Barred Rock named Luna, and our extra chick that we got (in case one dies) is an Easter Egger named Margo. So we let all family members pick a breed and name theirs.

I named my chicks after the Golden Girls and Elaine from Seinfeld. Then the two surprises I got from my parents, two new chicks from TSC, Cousin Eddie and Aunt Edna....hoping they are pullets but not so sure on 'Aunt Edna.'

Aunt Edna can be Uncle Ed if necessary!
Or Dame Edna. :)

It is extremely rewarding to name your chickens, transforming them from just egg-laying machines to house pets.

Despite the fact that there is no shortage of human names, you might want to give your chickens a more creative name. As with people, each chicken has their own unique personality. Chickens also have fine memories. Whenever you call out their names, they will come running, particularly if it is because food is in sight.

So we would like to find out: How do you name your pet chickens?

Place your vote above, and please elaborate in a reply below if you chose "Other". And feel free to share your chickens' names with us as well.

I name them after foods, normally. Here are some chicken names I use: Custard, Sesame, Marmite, Marmalade, Cashew, Almond, Liquorice, Cocoabean, Mayo, Meringue (Personal fav), Quiche, Oatmeal, Mocha, Caramel, Toffee, Cinnamon and Chai!

Lol I've threatened some of my chickens I was gonna change their names to food names. At least one rooster became Stu, and a chronic escapee hen was threatened she was gonna be named Dumpling or Fricasee!

Heh lol. It feels too.. offensive to name one Nugget despite the temptations. Dumpling is cute! Nugget would be for the smollest yet angriest bean if I had to name one that.

Sometimes by appearance, sometimes by personality. Mick Jagger lived up to his name particularly, strutting around the place while the hens flocked around him adoringly.
