odd egg white

I've recently opened eggs to eat and found eggs that look like they have a sack in the egg white. I'm not sure if there is anything wrong with my hens. Not all eggs have the sack in the whites. I've had my 10 hens and 1 rooster for at least 3 years, and some for about 8+ years. Are the eggs safe to eat? Is there a problem with my hens? I've googled odd chicken eggs and haven't found anything similar to my egg problem.

Welcome to BYC.

Don't think I've seen that one before.
Is it actually 'extra' membranes, like you'd see with a softshell egg?
Can you pick out the 'sack' with a spoon?
Wonders if it's an extra membrane with what inside,
thin albumen or is it all a thick semi-solid gel?
Were shells larger than normal?

Some 'dissection' is in order.
I'm betting it is from an older bird, things can go wonky in there.

Thanks for responding. I'll dissect the next one I get and do a closer inspection. The egg is normal sized.
