Where are you keeping the chicks? That will have a lot to do with when you can remove the light. Also, what breed are they cause different breeds start laying at different ages?

I am keeping them in a small wire cage with news
paper and white towels over it. they look nice'n cozy
inside. and they are a mix breed with RIRs.

I'd keep the light on them for a couple more weeks, at least. They say to lower the temperature by about 5 degrees per week.

I never keep a thermometer in my brooder, and I just adjust the light by how much they huddle under it. If they pile up, I lower the light. If they try to get away from the heat, I raise it.

Congratulations on your new chicks. Now you are an addict and I'm sure will want more. I keep my chicks in their brooder for about 4 weeks. I keep the brooder around 95 degrees the first week and decrease the temp 5 degrees each week. I have a wireless digital thermemeter in the brooder to monitor the temp.
