Hi y’all! My name is Heather and I live in Central Texas with my hubby and 2 kids. We recently decided to begin raising chickens after my 6year old daughter saved a turkey poult from a dog on a friends farm and was subsequently given said turkey….
We now have 15 chickens, and 6 5wk old midget white turkey poults! While I was around chickens in my childhood, it’s a completely new and slightly scary adventure for my husband!
We have 2 RIRs, 2 barred rocks, 2 production blues, 3 sapphire gems, 3 silkies and 3 that I’m not quite sure if the breed. Possibly an Americana and 2 cuckoo maran’s. We also have 6 midget white turkeys.
I absolutely love watching my little flock free range around the yard and develop little personality’s. Also, watching the midget white Toms strut about at 5wks old has to be one of the funniest & cutest things I’ve EVER seen!
Some of my other hobbies include traveling, reading. I also love to do DIY crafting projects, using upcycled materials when I can.
I am currently a stay at home momma after working in a very stressful job in Academia for nearly 20 years. I am enjoying being able to stay home with my 11 year old son and 6 year old daughter. We are also home to a rescue pit mix who weighs in around ~100lbs, but thinks she is a chihuahua, 2 cats, a bunny and a bearded dragon.
I joined BYC to meet like-minded & crazy chicken people like myself as well as expand my knowledge of the poultry world! I would eventually like to start my own breeding program for harder to find breeds, ornamentals and threatened breeds of turkeys.
