I'm doing lots of hatching this year, and the breeding is all done here. With that being said, I would love to share what the chicks come out looking like!

My main Rooster is a Light Brahma. He's a big boy and is over my 13 hens which includes: Easter Eggers, GLW, White Leghorn, Buff Brahma, Light Brahma, Dark Brahma, and welsummer.

I'm very interested in chicken genetics and breeding for feather colors. Majority of my chicks have been white with the columbia pattern in the past, but with a few new hens, I'm starting to see partridge in my current chicks.

Here are some pics of what I've got so far! (The chicks are currently a month old)

If anyone has their own mutts or mixed breeds, please feel free to share and let me know what the parents were!

Vorwerks are so cool!
Very interesting flock and variety for sure
They are cool to look at but they are soooo aloof - I have no relationship with them at all!

I spent ages deciding on what breeds I wanted and hatched them all myself using the Silkies as mummies (other than the first 4 on the list). Of those the roos are the bantam, 1 Orpington, 1 Marans and 1 Araucana as well as the mixed which is way too many. I've made the hard decision about who is staying and who is going (the Araucana and the Marans are staying). Need to now actually do the deed! Hoping they'll be a good start for me to build my colourful egg flock!

Oh that's quite a shame, but hopefully future birds will be better.

Good choices on the roos though! Have any pics to share? Is the Maran black copper or a different color?

I've debated trying out broody hen incubating... Maybe one of these days!
