Mixed flock pros and cons

I favor a mixed flock for several reasons
1 the variety
2 seeing which chicken breeds you will want more of
3 if you rescue a chicken, it's usually not going to be the same breed as the others, and if your flock is all one breed, the rescued bird will get picked on for standing out.

Their are too many cool breeds for me to have a flock of just one breed, lol! I completely agree and if I end up with mutts one day, so be it! Right now can't have a rooster so not a problem, lol.

The only reason I can think of for having a flock of one breed is if you breed that breed of chicken to sell and/or show. In that case, you don't want a rooster of one breed and a hen of another--but that's not what most of us are doing.
