Any advice for candling brown eggs? The single brown egg I have in the incubator is very hard to see into.
The blue eggs are easy though

VERY bright light, VERY dark room.

Instead of trying to look through the egg just count the days and let it hatch or not. If you don't see anything leaking it should make it .

You should say that to my 10 eggs that didn't hatch...as well as the 2 gross smelling ones

Try candling from the air-sac end. Funny, I could never see into my blue eggs, but had no issues with most of the brown ones.

Also, use something like a narrow tube (you can cut a toilet paper roll and make a cone out of it) to focus the light beam more.

Well all eggs have a time limit during incubation. So smelling and checking the shell periodically would avoid any accidents. That's what I would do if I can't see through the egg.
