A local factory sells these crates for $2 each. I cut a 4 x 4 post into 24" sections to use as legs and set it on concrete blocks.

Used an old shower curtain rod for a perch. I think I'm going to end up lowering this or eliminating it because the crate isn't deep enough for the hens to hop up on it.

Knocked out a side panel for cleaning access and put down 1 sq ft peel & stick tiles i bought for 49 cents each. So far i have about $4 in this

I traded some stuff for about 50 pallets and am using the wood. Framed in a small entrance and closed in the front with the repurposed pallet boards.
 
Nice! Free or nearly free pallets are great, and I'm thinking of doing something similar...

Even if i can't find free pallets, the feed store sells them for 1.50 each, and you can use them for a lot of projects.
