Keeping chickens off my borders

Is it possible to dicorage/ train chickens to keep my 2 chickens off my borders and stop them eating and digging up my plats with out having to put fences up all over the place?

If there is a way, I'm not aware of it. My neighbor has kept chickens his whole life (he's about 65) and he has little electric fences around his flower beds and front porch, just a single strand. I'm new to this chicken gig so have no experience with this. Plus my chickens are about 1/4 mile from my house in the barn so I don't have this to deal with.
