My girls gave me 5 nice eggs today. I usually don't let them out to forage in the yard until late in the evening, but since I was going to be outside with them I let them out into yard around 2 o'clock this afternoon.

They spent an hour or so down inside the edge of the woods digging through the forest duff. Probably finding worms, slugs and snails.

Then they went into the pasture, beyond the back fence of my place. There's a hawk that regularly flies back and forth over the pasture, so I kept an eye on them (BB gun in hand, just in case. LOL)

They were all ready to go back into the run around 5PM and acted like they were starving for pellets, with four of them eating pellets out of a feeder designed for two chickens.

They all seem to be healthy and happy chickens. They love scratching under the trees.

oh! they are so pretty!

All 4 today! We had egg burros for dinner, thanks girls!

Construction is finally over, and it seems the hawk has moved on, so tomorrow we’re back to twice daily foraging! Juin caught a small frog today, and I chased her all around the yard trying to save it. I think it was unharmed, thankfully. I don’t mind if they eat bugs, but I feel bad watching them slam defenseless amphibians against the ground trying to rip off their limbs. Death by chicken looks pretty rough 😣

Only 9 today. It is possible that some of the girls laid in the yard and I haven’t found them. Today was coop clean out day so the nesting boxes were out of service for a while. My EE Marshmallow was really upset with me when she came looking for her nesting box. View attachment 3766186
She does look a mite perturbed! "Hey -- what's the DEAL here?!? A girl's gotta lay when a girl's gotta lay. I'm complaining to the management!"😁😆
