I am attaching photos of one of my 4-week-old Easter Eggers from Hoover's (legbar/grunleger type as far as I can tell). All but two of the ten chicks have little crests, and their coloring is very similar to chick in photo. Hoover's says their "grunleger" chicks are a legbar mixed with a brown egg layer. First question: wouldn't that yield green eggs? Main question: probably not a possibility to come up with the breed of brown egg layer, but any guesses as to breed besides legbar? Just curious.... Would love to know what these chickens are! I know there are probably a hundred possibilities...

It's very possible she's an olive egger, yes. Only time will tell. As far as breed goes, I have no comment other than what you already know. I always assumed hatcheries mostly sell f1 OEs, but I'm not certain on that.

Unfortunately I’m not going to be helpful in solving this mystery. But I can commiserate. I have two of these pullets. Did you order directly from Hoover’s? Mine came in a hatchery choice assortment. I’m excited to grow them out and see what color eggs they lay.

These pictures are a few weeks old. I need to snap some new ones.

Any updates on these chicks? I have some from hoover that look very similar.

I ended up keeping just one. I’m 90% sure she lays a speckled brown egg. She started laying at about 7 months and has been a solid layer. Not a bad bird at all unless you were really hoping for a colored egg. The 3 Hoover’s chicks of Ameraucana type I kept, from the last order, lay a blue or pale green egg.

Here she is today.

Just found this post, trying to look up the "Grnleger breed"; I have one too!

Her name is Ginger and she just recently started laying olive green eggs (hers, on the left, compared to her green-laying sister)

I have 2 of these birds that I got from tractor supply back in June. Both of them lay beautiful green eggs and one of them (Parsley) has a crest while the other (Rosemary) is my friendliet bird. So far they're both laying every day which is well above what I thought I'd get - certainly not complaining lol. No idea what the other breed used is but I'm curious to know too

Here are the ladies in question, Parsley is the crested one, Rosemary is the uncrested one, and the grey bottom belongs to Thyme xD
