Hi I’m Julia! I’m new to BYC and I’m getting back into raising chickens this year. I also am just starting out with quail.

Right now I have around 40 young quail I hatched in December, 3 silkie chickens and rabbits.

For years I kept some black Australorps and Plymouth Rock hens I got as chicks from the feed store, just for eggs, and when they eventually died I didn’t get more. They were great chickens, and now I’m getting some silver laced barnevelders and salmon faverolles hatching eggs this spring. I’m hoping to do eggs and meat this time, and maybe even get into breeding these breeds if I like them.

I look forward to meeting all the poultry folks on here! :)

I’ve been reading through some of the posts on here and it looks like a fantastic site with a wealth of information and friendly people. I’ve been especially liking the posts about quail since there’s not too much information out there about the colors. So glad to be here. :)
