This evening we put our 4 chickens in their run, about an hour before they were due to head into their coop compartment for the night. When we went out to close the inner door, our ameracauna was bleeding on her comb and beak and wouldnt move. It appears that the coop perch had fallen down. We are not sure what happened. We picked her up and wiped her off and thought we'd try and put her in the coop to bed because when we were cleaning her up, she seemed to be falling asleep. We had offered her some seeds and water which she took as we were cleaning her up---but, when we put her in the ground to make sure she could walk, she laid on her back, and didn't try to get up. We have no idea what to do--its 9 pm here. We wrapped her up and took her inside with us. We are new to chickens and this is our first flock. she's about 18 months old. help any advice?

I would keep her separate in a pen or dog crate with bedding near the others. Look for any swelling, broken skin, or green bruising on her legs. Prop her on towels Place water and food near her, and offer them frequently. Consider a chicken sling if she isn’t able to stand and walk in a day or two.

Thank you for the advice. We are doing all of the following.

She could have a head injury. Hopefully she will recover. Maybe the perch hit her on the head?
