I'm posting this in the "Raising Baby Chicks" forum because that may be where newbies look first- that's what I did. I want to report that my 4 baby chicks, which I got on May 1, 2018, are now 4 wonderful, fun, friendly and healthy chickens. Yes, having healthy and happy chickens is possible!

At the beginning, I tended to get scared by every sad story, sick hen, predator or injury story I read. I was nervously watching my small flock for pasty butt, leg injuries, etc, etc. So far, so very good.

So I want other beginners to know that you can get through to laying eggs and your biggest issue may just be finding homes for all of your eggs. Or getting to the coup through the snow to care for the hens.

Now, I watch calmly for any problems and pay attention to what I see, how they behave, what they look like. I know I'll find info here in my chicken neighborhood and help when I need it, but I spend most of my time just enjoying the ladies. And my new fritatta recipe!
