Graphic Pics.
I have 1 Black White Crested Polish Pullet. She was in the run as shes been for two weeks now with 6 laying pullets.
She is 8 weeks old. Loads of room, and secret hinding places BUT,
I found her and her female mate together in an open corner.
Her neck was torn open.
Here are pictures.
I immediately picked her up and brought her in. Trimmed the feathers to get a good look.
The skin is separated from her head and all sides where its bald.
To not traumatize her more, I did not clean it but coated Bacitracin all over it. Covered it and secured it with black self stick wrap.
Her little GF was yelling so badly I also brought her in.
I gave her hydro-Hen and letting her rest.
What else can I do?
I have to tell you..Im crying crying now.

That sure was a nasty sight and a shock for you. :hugs

I still do not see any pictures, but from my experience I can tell you that much: chickens are very tough and even wounds that look horrible at first heal fast if attended carefully.

Your little chicks are too young to be in the same run with normal layer hens and being polish they are prone to being attacked because of their crest.

I've read so much about intregration and asked many questions. I started a see, but no touch since two weeks and finally let them out during the day with many hiding places, separate eating and drinking spots and the girls have permitted them to enter the coop at night to enter their own separate roosting place, feeders ect. Yes, outside, they would get chased sometimes but, run and hide and hoover fly away. But, she didnt get away today. I feel so terrible about it.
I just got her to drink again. Her friend is chirping away.
They are both inside, in a dog crate.
What else should I do???
Im at a lost as a new chicken keeper.
I feel absolutely heart broken.

This last weeks picture of Punkie in the run but in a crate. Look, but no touch.
The other one is Becky. I think shes a she. Lol She is a Silver Lace. Those are my only two Polish. The otheres are three RIR and three Easter Eggers.

Thank you.
I do have Blu-Kote but, I was aff4aid to use it on such a deep wound. I will definitely keep it moist and covered because her (GF) other polish would peck it. Im going to moisten her food and dropper it I guess. Esp. Since its getting night time. Should I get up tonight to give her fluids?
When shes resting, I keep a towel under her chin.
I wish I could keep her separate but her GF just yells. Shes sorting next to her. She came out and snuggled me for a moment and wanted back in to be with her injured friend.
I know which two pullets would have done this too. Ugg!!! Feeling absolutely sick to my stomach.
