Breeding Blue Birchen Marans

Hi all,

I have blue, black and splash birchen marans. I want to breed these to get blue birchen. Can anyone tell me if I should breed blue to blue, or what? I also have a copper marans rooster and read somewhere that breeding him to a blue hen might give me blue birchens?

A Copper rooster would not give you any Birchen.
You can breed any of your others except black Xs black or splash Xs splash.
Splash Xs black will give you 100% blues.
Blue Xs blue = 25% black, 25% splash and 50% blue.
Blue Xs splash = 50% blue and 50% splash.

Keep breeding blues and blues. Eventually you will get true blues aka lavender. Breed those and you will only get true blues

Self blue/lavender is a different gene than blue

I know it is a different gene than blue but it is a recessive gene that comes from blue
