Were they all raised at the same time of year? I have noticed that pullets who grow up during the long days of spring & summer will generally lay earlier than ones hatched later in the year who grow up with mostly decreasing day length and short days as they are maturing.

So depending on when you were raising them, you might have a genetic difference or an environmental one or a bit of both.

How does that compare with the hatch dates of the older ones, that began laying at 5-7 months of age? I mean the birds mentioned in this bit:

The Brahmas I got were a day old on March 21st. Makes them 5 months, not currently laying yet. Last ones I had layed right at 5 months years ago.

Unless the summer hatches were fairly late in the summer, I think you are probably right to treat it as a genetic difference rather than a time-of-year difference in what age they start to lay.

I believe it's genetics, due to this not happening to me before.

Smarty Pants layed at about 6 months, her daughter Sassy Pants around 5½ months.

Father of the 4 month olds, is my boy Dino, who is from my discontinued Wheaten Crele Orpington project. He's F1 Buff Orpington/Barred Rock X Buff Orpington/Australorp.

His mother, a Buff Orpington/Australorp cross layed eggs at 6 months.

Sassy Pants is molting out her white wing feathers, & replacing with blue. I can get pictures tomorrow.

My darker Chameleon cockerel had a impacted vent yesterday. It had cleared this morning. Had to feed him coconut oil, also gave some Nutridrench for the molasses part. The blockage was due to grasses.
