Beach pebbles for a mixed flock?

Hey everyone, I am new to the community and I am currently introducing 4 new birds to my existing flock, 2 more chickens and 2 ducks! Having a mixed flock has me renovating my coop, I am installing a small foldable dog pool for my ducks to swim and with the hot North Carolina summer approaching the chickens can always take a dip to cool off! I am having a hard time deciding between pea gravel and "beach pebbles" from my local Lowe's. I have seen pea gravel be used a lot however I'm worried about bumble foot and the rocks becoming sharp, "beach pebbles" are more rounded and have more room for one foot versus one foot stepping on 10 different pea gravel rocks.
please note that the run is sand and I have a section "portioned" off with retaining wall blocks to keep either the pebbles or pea gravel in that area for the pool.
Thoughts?

Bumblefoot is not the concern with pebbles, it's going to become saturated with poops and reek.
How deep is this pool?
