Come on in, you don't have to be so fowl here! :D

:welcome Start with healthy chickens .Make sure you have a market .And then simply figure out how to feed for free.Rasing poultry starts out in the red .You can calculate it many ways, but turning a profit isn't easy in a small operation .It can be done .But it takes a while .So figure startup cost .Coops and pens .Bird cost and feed cost. But above all else know where you are going to market your chickens eggs and if possible litter.Chicken manure is high on nitrogen when fresh . If you can use it to grow vegetables, market those it helps .Chickens are labor intensive .There are backyard pets, and then serious small chicken operations .Notice I am saying this three times .YOU MUST HAVE A MARKET TO MAKE IT WORK!!! .I know from experience losing your market can be devastating to your bottom line .It is better to have a back up market. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavor .Keep us informed on how you make out.
