There are many different types of shell defects that can occur for a variety of reasons. Here is a link to information that discusses them. http://www.thepoultrysite.com/publications/1/egg-quality-handbook/18/misshapen-eggs Yours looks to fall into the misshapen or bumpy category. If your chickens are young and have recently started laying, it is perfectly normal to see unusually shaped eggs from time to time. This is nothing to worry about. As your chickens get older the eggs they lay will become more uniform and consistent. Be sure to feed them a good quality layer food to make sure they are getting the calcium they need to form egg shells. Some folks also offer oyster shell in a container for added calcium.

x2 good post.

Sometimes odd things happen, especially with new layers. Unless it becomes an everyday issue for an extended period of time then there is nothing to worry about. Could just be a hiccup in the shell formation. Review their diet and always make sure they are getting the right amount of protein and calcium.
