Some years back I grew some cayenne peppers in 5 gallon buckets. This year I have them on a sweet potato type ridge. I just wonder if the frogs and grasshoppers will find them?

This is my first season with vining yellow summer squash. Once this stormy spell is over I'll plant some of the seed and some in sequential plantings. I had planned on using a cattle panel for them but I like the way you could wrap them on the stakes. I'm going to try and drive some 2x2's in the...

I managed to plant 6 hills of summer squash before the rain chased me inside. 3 hills of Cupcakes and 3 hill of Golden Nugget.

It's been raining during the night and looks like rain off and on the rest of the day. I guess if this keeps up we should be gardening with bull frogs.

Zipper cream peas are up. Roma II beans should be up by tomorrow. Within a couple more days Lima Beans should be up along with the second planting of sweet corn.

I haven't seen it but if it works that's what counts. I use just plain Epsom salt on my blueberries which is approved for Organic gardening. Don't need much of it either as my pH is about right to start with. I have just one cherry tree that is not really old enough to bear yet. It's in a garden...

My tomatoes took a beating by the thunderstorms and high winds. I'm glad I get a second chance with a fall crop that I'll plant in July. Some of the sweet corn is laying almost flat this morning. I'm going to try and stand it back up and work some dirt to it to keep it there.

Grind them as fine as you can.

We have started digging the potatoes as fast as we can. Fire ants really are working them over.

I don't know. I use granulated garden lime that is fast acting. It's basically raw quarry limestone that's been ground up. It also has magnesium in it that tomatoes need that egg shells do not have. One day I want to do an experiment with egg shells and lime stone side by side. Couldn't do it...

I just looked at the weather radar and the rain we were supposed to get is all passing north of us so I just might get to till tomorrow and do some more planting if I rest up today.

Weather is not looking good for any working in the gardens for us the rest of this week. Looks like it will rain even more now before the current rainfall is used up. We ate some of the first new potatoes tonight. Sure can tell the difference in them and store bought.

We got the second planting of sweet corn in the ground today along with some Lima beans. No if the Lima beans will just pollinate. The first time we planted them here we got 3 pods out of thousands of blooms. I think the heat may have been the culprit. I may plant some more later to set beans in...

We are getting a lot more rain from a violent thunderstorm that was forecast earlier. Can't see outside to know if and what kind of damage there is. I feel bad for the chickens in the coops during these intense storms.

Looks like we may get up to and inch of rain over several hours so it should soak down instead of going down the river to the Gulf of Mexico. I just want rain and not the possible hail.

I haven't planted summer squash yet and wanted to plant a few hills today. The old bones just don't respond to my commands like the once did. I may mud some in tomorrow after the storms move out early morning. I can plant in the sandy loam soil here a few things in small areas. Our sweet corn is...

My French hens (Bresse) are helping dig the Irish potatoes. The plants are tall and well bedded up and the hens to like to get in them in their shade to dust bathe and nap a little. I'm going to dig them after this next rain as some are starting to die off now. I want small to medium sized ones...

I got a lot of tilling done today but nothing planted. Not going to plant in a seedbed that is not good enough. To much plant residue still that interferes with the planter and seed placement. If we double time it tomorrow we should get all the planting done before a potential stormy wet week.

After watering sweet corn last night I found the first tassels in the patch this morning. I planted 8 feet of 4 rows to Early Sunglow so we could have some early ears for table use. Another day or two we should see silks start to come out. I saw one what looks like an army worm today. I thought...

Rain appearing now in the forecast but that will not be felt by the plants here unless it does rain here and not 10 miles away. I'm turning the pump back on and going to finish the corn patch and then the onion bed. Need to till some sprouted new weeds under and plant a lot of beans and other...
