My first iridescent birds popped up as a byproduct of trying to get Lavender Laced green egg layers. I had a black laced green egg layer that was part Blue Laced Red Wyandotte and part Cream Legbar and I crossed her to a Lavender Orpington. I inbred those birds and very few chicks had Lavender...

What I was trying to say is that if you crossed a Cream Legbar with a pea combed brown egg layer the offspring wouldn’t suddenly recombine to link the blue egg gent to the PEA COMB. I got the impression that it was being stated that the blue egg gene automatically prefers the pea comb which...

I’ve got a breeding project that has nothing to do with the blue egg gene but a lot of my birds do lay a blue or green egg. It’s long past F1 so there is no predictability. If I get the results that I want and a lot of my birds at that point are laying blue eggs I might try and just hatch...

I think once the link between the blue egg gene and the pea comb gene is broken then there is no more link. I think if you crossed a Legbar with a brown egg laying pea comb bird there would be no correlation between blue eggs and pea combs.

Actually no matter what you use the F1 birds will all have one copy of the blue egg gene. It’s the F2 cross (if you inbreed those offspring) where 25% will be homozygous first the blue egg gene, 50% will be heterozygous for the blue egg gene and 25% won’t have the blue egg gene at all. So using...

Interesting that it states that homozygous hens have bluer eggs than heterozygous hens. I couldn’t see a difference from my pure Cream Legbars vs. my heterozygous “Sapphire” hens which were Cream Legbar crossed with White Leghorn.

So then the question is can you cross both and inbreed to get homozygous copies in both locations and intensity the blue because of a double copy?

I don't think there are any in the U.S.

I've got Cream Legbars so that's what I personally would cross them with. The whole reason though would have less to do with the look of the bird and just to try and get the deepest, darkest blue egg possible.

That's exactly what I was wondering. If you crossed one of these Chinese blue-egg breeds with an Auracana, Ameraucana or Cream Legbar would you get a brighter, deeper blue egg? I'd like to see what would happen!
