Hey Gang, well we are officially out of the chicken business now. Over the course of the last month we have gotten rid of our three different little flocks. They all went to the same gentleman but in stages. The one-year-old roo's went first. Then everyone in englewood which included my BF...

On the rooster rescue, do you have enough spacing for multiple roosters. First thoughts are they would need to be kept out of eye sight of your hens if not there would be fighting. Secondly, not sure how many roosters can live together comfortably without fighting, do you have enough space and...

Ditto! Also it should remind the employer to follow HIPPA Guidelines, medical conditions are Confidential. The supervisor should not be discussing personal information with other staff, one could be sued over those types of actions. Where the heck is the HR Rep in all this? I worked In...

@uzisuzuki Call multiple attorneys to find the one that best suits you and you are comfortable with. Also if you have an attorney they can demand that your job follow the requirements in the Disability Act, which has to make certain allowances for your disability. Also your attorney can be the...

Have you thought about consulting an attorney? Might be time to take action to protect yourself.

Hi, Been a bit since I posted last. Thanks everyone about the kinds words on the lost roo to the predator. No predator got into the run, the roo's are sequestered in a corner of the run and have access to a smaller coop. So the grey one didn't escape through the run door or anything like that...

So we lost a young roo to a predator, found only the head and wing outside the chicken pens yesterday am. It was the grey roo, he escaped the run enclosure as best we can tell. There is no sign of forced entry into the run and all the hardware is still entact. Kinda sad to see him go....

Hi been awhile since I posted, don't beat yourself up. Our BO roo almost always gets frostbite on his giant waddles and his comb. He lost his points his first winter, there isn't much you can do about genetics, some breeds seem more susceptible. The first roo in your picture will likely loose...

Hola Colorado family, been awhile since I posted an update about our young cockerels we hatched hatched 04/1/16 (from what I recall, will have to double check that). Anyhoo, we are particular to the grey one. We have one in isolation (the splash) as he was beating up on one of our Broodies and...

:love. Too cute! Congrats on splitting the coop and those boys adjusting, also too funny about the peahens terrorizing the dogs. Our dogs don't mess with our chickens, they definitely steer clear of our roo.

So we have taken the first steps towards our selection of a replacement roo. Colonel White is now blocked off from the rest of the flock. He had been exhibiting some roughish roo behaviors and they will not be tolerated. He will be fattened up and processed before October. He is merciously...

Our run is dirt and straw in Bouler and is covered, so things stay fairly dry. Same in Englewood but it's uncovered and is a mess and smells when wet. Need to change it to wood chips as they help with drainage and help cut down with mud. Check out the Natural Chicken Keeping thread, if you...

@aim0474 I understand about being concerned about the babies. Here is a shot of our run and coop this spring. No surprise we had snow right? We had five day old chicks outside in the snow covered run in a dog kennel with a heat pad brooder, no heat lamp. Anyway, lots of people raise their...

No need to heat your coop during the winter, chickens have a built in down coat. Heating the coop can cause further issues, think condensation = frostbite. There is a good thread started by I think someone in Alaska, no they don't heat their coop. The main thing is that the birds have shelter...

So I had some duck eggs to use up, so we made a quiche last night with them, of course cooked it on our smoker. We made a Quinoa crust, we follow mostly a Paleo diet so we tried something different. We used Zuchinni from the garden, mushrooms, onions and goats/Parmesan cheese. Of course smoking...

Hope ya'll don't mind if I post a few roo pics :D. They are getting really pretty now and the grey one in particular with his long tail is so handsome. He seems to know it already.....we are leaning towards him more and more as a replacement. He is the OE from @Percheron chick flock that we...
