Okay this makes some sense . He has mixed the colors Still hard to account for the yellow skin out of pure Ameraucana . Perhaps he added some from another source that were not as pure as stated .
This picture is of some bantam EE that shows what is out there . 1 female is wheaten family...
Yellow skin is recessive . Your breeder probably does not know he has Easter Eggers . May even get defensive and insist he has Ameraucana . Happens a lot unfortunately .
It should make no difference which way the cross is made. Myself I usually used roosters of the new breed. Surplus roosters are easy to find and can cover many hens, Hens usually have to be bought with a rooster and you are limited to the eggs she can produce. Our club history says we used...
Yes bantam Old English game. Also look for Belgian D'Anvers. I used Black OEG and black D'Anvers with the white ameraucana to start the black line. Tail angle is high on the Belgian but Mike Gilbert added black Wyandotte later. Our project lavenders were started by John Blehm using both OEG and...
In the USA we developed bantams first. I am one of the original breeders so I may be able to help. Do you have bantam old English, Wyandotte, orpington and Plymouth Rock bantams available ? We used Old English for wheaten, brown reds, silver, black/blue. orpington in buff and whites. Blacks also...
Yes hen size or egg size makes a difference. Smaller hen or egg seems to make a smaller adult. Larger hen or egg makes a larger adult. I have used these intermediate adults to go both ways on projects. Creating bantam and large lines in the same project color.
I missed that you are in the land down under. That changes things a little. In the USA those birds would not be showable. A knowledgeable judge would disqualify them. We also need to list color variety when we fill out the entry form even on project colors. I could not call those by any known...
Hmmm. Let me save you some disappointment at the show. Very nice birds but not any approved color. Some will say they are Easter eggers.
Go to the show to learn. We can also help you learn and get you started with some birds you can show. Check out the Ameraucana Breeders Club website. I know...
You have to breed for feather sexing. So no. You will not have long to wait. Wheaten family chicks will get buff breast on females and black or blue on the breast on males.
The blue will cause color issues for several generations I would think. It is how Mike Gilbert brought blue into wheaten bantams. The blue gene was in my white bantams. So when I used white to create the first black bantams blue popped up. Wheaten/blue wheaten LF were bred up from bantam by...
Have you considered a LF x bantam cross. I would say a bantam wheaten cock over some LF blue wheaten or splash wheaten hens should work. No color issues just size issues. should look good by 3rd generation going back to bantam each time.
