Hi, this chick was mixed in with Cornish crosses from TSC. She has fluffy feathers, a tuft of feathers on her head, and deep blue shanks with white feathers. Any ideas?
Ok. Let's say I try both, African and Pilgrim, and the African are too noisy, are they sellable, for meat or pets?
What do you like about buffs, other than the low noise level?
I'm looking for a few (3-8) geese to help watch my ducks while they forage. After researching and reading reviews and seeing what's available (every hatchery is sold out, except McMurray has a few breeds) I've narrowed it down to African or Pilgrim. Although thr Pilgrim is considered quiet, the...
This enormous goose showed up at my pond today with a flock of Canada geese. Orange bill, orange feet, and gray brown feathering. Is this a domestic Toulouse that ran off? He definitely knows the word 'snacktime' (I didn't feed him but was trying to get my ducks inside.) He appears to be bonded...
Hi, I'm in Ashtabula County. I have ducks and chickens, 1/3 acre pond. Would they be ok if they free ranged during the day and came in to the barn at night? Would they get along with the other poultry?
Hi, I'm posting here some photos of my property in hopes for your input for the best options for dealing with predators (note lots of visiting wild geese this morning). Have lost a duck a day this week. Just shot at a mangy fox. Last year there were minks that I poisoned maybe they are back...
My new dog is actually not trained around poultry. There's been a real issue with her and the chickens. But she usually just roughs them up. The ducks disappearing suddenly, and the remaining ducks going to the far end of the pond, seems like it's a mink. Is there any way to be sure?
I got a rat terrier/ jack Russell mix in January, to control the rats in the barn. She's 10 months old. She hasn't been very useful in getting rats but consistently goes after the chickens. I think three hens have been killed and every chicken in her area has signs of their neck being chewed on...
Hi, I'm in NE Ohio. Last year had a problem with minks and foxes attacking my chickens. I think I got the foxes with my 22LR and the minks by dropping rat poison in their burrows in the creek by the coop. But this week 3 ducks have disappeared suddenly midday. I don't think I should do the rat...
Well looks like I lost another duck today, an adult Cayuga hen. One of the remaining Cayuga hens has a feather on her back pointing upwards abnormally. Is this a sign of an attack from the air?
It *should* heal on its own. Isolate hen for 2-3 weeks. It sounds like a traumatic event but tbh the wound doesn't look that bad. Spray wound with blucote or iodine, cover with nonstick pad, wrap pad with sticky stretchy athletic wrap/roll, criss cross over and under wings so it stays in place...
Hi, these were found in the assorted ducklings bin at Family Farm and Home. Staff and I thought they are Golden 300 Layers, 4 hens and 1 Drake. They have a bluish tint to their beaks, and solid golden-brown down. What do you think?
