Did coccidiosis kill my cockerel or could this be something else?

We lost our sweet 8 month old(4lb 4oz) Easter Egger cockerel, Patch, last night to suspected coccidiosis. Back story. Two days ago our 4 year old Isa started wheezing. I brought her inside to treat her. She is doing great now(I think her nostrils were clogged with dirt) but I noticed she had...

    Feathered leg genetics question....

Last year, our broody hatched two pullets that were from a Welsummer rooster and EE Hen(lays spearmint colored eggs). I was aiming for olive eggers, which was successful. Recently, I had another broody, hatch three chicks from one of those two OE crossed with the same Welsummer rooster. I am...

Is our 10 week old runt, a cockerel or pullet?

This is our 10 week old runt, Lil' Bit. Out of the 8 chicks(EE hen x Welsummer roo) one of our broodys hatched, this one has always been much smaller than the rest and slower to both grow and feather(finally lost the last few downy head feathers, just last week). I initially thought pullet due...

I knew catching him was going to be difficult. We got him at 4 months(he's a year old now and so are all of the hens)and as soon...

    Two weeks later...pullet or roo?

Nugget is now 5 weeks. Mom is an Isa Brown, Dad is Welsummer(pic added). We have two chicks from the same parents. The other one is only 3 weeks but they look nothing alike so I added a pic, merely for comparison. Nugget has a pretty impressive tail but, that comb looks pretty small, especially...

Found blood in coop, appears to be from poop? Please help.

As I was cleaning under the roosting bar today(please don't mind the poop I was in the middle of cleaning), I noticed blood on the wall and pine flakes under. I didn't notice until I had raked some which is why you see a few random bloody flakes. I'm not 100% sure which chicken it was but, I...

    DIY Incubator Project....thoughts?

I've been working on setting up a diy incubator. It's not the prettiest but, I think it will work with some tweaking. I just need ideas and recommendations. I've never hatched any chicks myself but have two hens that have and I'd like to have something set up for the just in case scenerios(which...

Need advice...Had to move hen/eggs after 1st chick hatched.

So, one of the 6 eggs, under my broody hen, hatched today. Due to her horrible location, in the nesting box, I had no way to safely block her in and provide her food/water. (I had tried to locate her previously and it was a major fail).Other hens and our 2 two week old chicks, and their mom kept...

On October 27th, one of my broodys, hatched these two cuties! The tan striped one is from the hen sitting on the stepping stone. I got her as an Easter egger and her eggs are olive colored. The yellow chick is from the Isa Brown pictured with our Welsummer rooster who is daddy to both chicks. I...
