    Black Australorp, Maran or…?

she looks just like my "mystery chick" i got from tsc! mine was supposedly a black sex link but definitely doesn't look like one. mine is also growing bigger faster, I'm thinking she may be a jersey giant, maybe yours is too?

    what breed is my chick?

so we got the chick in question at tsc from a bin that was labeled "black sex link pullets", but the more she grows the more i think she's not a sex link, lol. she's now almost 2 weeks old, and she's huge, for one, considerably larger than our other two chicks (easter egger and cream legbar)...

    weird RIR hen

you're probably right, but the second picture is what seems to be the standard hatchery quality RIR here in the US as they're bred more for laying. i just wonder why she looks so different from another chick that's supposedly the same breed that we got at the same time from the same place, lol

    weird RIR hen

not sure if this is the right place for this, but i wanted to ask about one of my hens. this isn't really a "new" issue or anything as the hen in question is 3 years old, but i wanted to know if there's something wrong with her or if she's just a little different. here's the hen in question- her...

chick acting weird- neurological or just a little special?

unfortunately she has passed away. i found her this evening sprawled on her side but she was still twitching and moving a bit, so i put her in front of the heater and got her comfortable until she died. the rest of the chicks all still seem healthy.

chick acting weird- neurological or just a little special?

thank you so much for your help, I'll keep that in mind! she does seem a bit sleepy but they all kind of are, all they do is eat sleep and poop lol. she isn't mouth breathing at all but does chirp most of the time (very loudly). she's been having a few runny watery (no blood, however) poops...

chick acting weird- neurological or just a little special?

hello, just got 4 baby chicks yesterday from the local tsc to add to our existing small flock of 3 three year old hens. one of the chicks seems a little odd- she walks funny (like waddling) which may be because she seems a little, well, wide. but she also keeps trying to get underneath the other...

    Silkie male or female?

I'm not an expert, but my guess is the buff is a roo, and the other two maybe pullets.

    Silkie chick colors ?

He is beautiful, and i hope we can find him a good home. :(

    Silkie chick colors ?

I don't know, maybe, but we are going to have to rehome him anyway, his crowing would annoy the neighbors :( right now we only have a pair of silkie roosters, him and a black crossbeaked one.

    Silkie chick colors ?

Ok thanks. He must just be a super pale splash, because we used to have another splash and they look way different.

    Silkie chick colors ?

This is unrelated, but do you think my silkie could be platinum? i was wondering what color he was. He is pretty much white everywhere but his head.

Will a cat hurt my chickens?

I have a cat that sees my silkies all the time and he is scared of them, he is 5x bigger than them but he stays far away. It really depends on the cat.

    Don't know what to do

The sick hen sadly passed away, we are going to keep the boys until they start crowing a lot, we can't have roosters crowing. We are probably going to get more hens in the spring.

We are probably going to get more chickens in the spring, some silkies and some other breeds too.

    Don't know what to do

They really are, they are best friends (despite being both roos) and we are gonna keep them until they start crowing a lot. As of now they are probably about four months and have only crowed twice.

    Don't know what to do

I love the chickens, and i want to get more, but the only thing holding me back is how sad it s when you lose them.

    Don't know what to do

Yes, it was one of the silkie chicks we got, but it was the only other girl who also unfortunately passed away :'( I love chickens, and they are so awesome, but so heartbreaking.
