Welsummer

Pros: Friendly, smart and wonderful layers
Cons: Explores more than I'd like
I got my wellsummer from a friend and she is wonderful. She is very smart and always interested in what I'm doing around the backyard. She is very treat driven, which is so great! My mom is a dog trainer and taught her some basic tricks.

I try to keep my chickens away from the vegetable garden and, if it wasn't for her, I think I'd have a lot more success! She is just so interested in checking out new areas of the yard.

Overall wonderful bird, who lays beautiful brown eggs. I always recommend the breed to people who are just getting into chickens.

Cochin

Pros: Beautiful big birds, friendly, entertaining, make wonderful mothers, lay well
Cons: Small eggs for such a big bird
I have had 3 cochins and have loved every single one of them. My first two were bantams and they were both very friendly. One was frizzled and I had to re-home her because she got picked on by my full sized birds (I was new to chickens and didn't realize how mean they can be to each other, never keeping a frizzle again) and she now lives in a bantam flock. The second was a flat feathered bantam who was so friendly! She went broody and hatched some chicks for me and was the best mother, so good she protected her chicks from a dog attack and was killed. :(

NOW I have the biggest lavender cochin! And she is BEAUTIFUL and so fun to watch. Her name is Loola. She's a bit stand-offish and while all my other chickens are very treat driven, it doesn't' work with her. When I let my chickens out of their run to forage around my yard she tends to do her own thing and is always the last to go back in (to the point where the rest have gone in and she 's outside alone and I have to herd her back in).

She's a wonderful layer, I get an egg from her almost every day, but her eggs are so small compared to her size (and the eggs from my other chickens).

I would love to have more cochins in the future.

Here are some pictures of her:
