I really love this box, it's just what we needed be be able to attach it to the back porch. We have three roaming leghorns that insisted on laying by the dogs' lixit and it became a competition to see who could get the eggs (or for us to remember when it was laying time!). We were about to order that plastic-bucket-to-a-nesting-box-thing when we came across this. It was just what we really wanted and installed so easy. The girls took right to it and now the eggs no longer are being laid on muddy ground. The only problem is our egg thief has discovered his big head still fits in the opening and snatches the eggs if we don't get them first. But most importantly the girls love it and are comfortable in it! And if I'd just quit being lazy and reposition it higher I probably wouldn't have a problem with the dog getting the eggs
