  • Good morning. How abnormal is to find an egg in the sack? the shell is almost hard, it looks like an umbilical cord and placentae still surrounding the egg. (I'm not sure if those terms apply for poultry).

    That is a soft shelled egg. It's the membrane you are seeing - the hen didn't have enough calcium to make the egg shell. Give her some more oyster shells... and it should help her.

    Good morning! and thank you for your welcoming massages.

    My chicken is still alive, this morning I was able to get a picture of her face as Kiki asked me to. I want to think that she is doing better but I have my doubts. I left her in the cage by herself but her new friends can get very close.

    Hello everyone!
    This is my sad update on the chicken. I buried her Sunday morning.... :-(
    I will never know what happened, except I firmly believe it was stress. I would like to find out how to add chickens to my little flock without causing that.
    The other two seem to be getting along better, perhaps because the stick together?
