I can't remember the exact day you're supposed to stop turning them, that "lockdown" phase of incubating but from what I remember it seems like once they start pushing on the internal membrane turning can probably be stopped. I think turning is mostly about making sure they don't get stuck on...
She seems to be getting stronger and brattier all the time. She's still not eating as much as she should but everything else seems normal. She's shaky neck pouncing on her sisters, attacking her toys...and me, her poops look much better. I'm starting to suspect that she likes the added attention...
I absolutely agree. It's a rotten position to be in. I do my best researching and learning how to treat what I can. It would be nice knowing there was a good waterfowl vet around though. The vet we went to is supposed to be an amazing bird vet. But I think there's just too big of a difference...
Wow! That's a really good price!! I don't know why the vet we went to called it surgery to inject the implant. It was just inserting the implant. To be honest, I probably would have had her implanted again if it wasn't so expensive. Plus the vet we went to is over an hour away from us so that...
I'm sorry to hear your experience with vets has been like mine. It's so frustrating. Especially when people tend to...kind of make you feel like a rotten duck parent if you don't go to a vet for whatever issue. Like not going to a vet means you don't care. In my experience, the vet was more than...
The implant worked for 2 months before she started laying again. Her eggs had good shells for a little while but then got soft again before she stopped laying. I didn't get her implanted again because the cost was just too high and I really, really did not care for that vet. I don't think he had...
I recently told my husband that I think I've been bit on the mouth by ducks more than any reasonable person should. He said that he suspended the number of times a reasonable person would be bitten is probably zero. 🙄 Whatever. I'm not going to stop kissing my ducks just because I get bit and...
I had been giving the girls the...darn, can't remember the brand...the one that starts with a "D", anyway, their powder with the oregano in it. I'm not sure if it made any difference with them. Plus I wanted something that had probiotics and electrolytes. I mix up a gallon jug with this Recover...
Thankfully the bite marks don't hurt. 😂 The bites themselves aren't even that bad. I will say, towards the end of her last molt when she was feeling very bitey, going to donate blood with my arms covered in duck bite marks was pretty awkward. 😂🤣😂
Quick update. I finally got the fr 18 tube to work so I'm able to make the formula a little thicker now. It seems like the thicker formula (more calories) is helping because she's back to gaining weight again. I don't think I'm seeing anything that looks like blood in her poops anymore though...
Thank you for sharing! ❤️
We do have other indoor ducks. Three of her biological sisters and one mini Cayuga. Bill doesn't really care what her sisters eat. She may peck at something they're eating but if it's something she doesn't care for at first peck, she shakes her head and is done with...
She's definitely spoiled rotten. She's been the boss of the house since she hatched. 😂 I've considered cutting the treats completely but...I don't want to "punish" her sister by taking the treats away. She's super stubborn and will likely just wait me out. It seemed like that's what started her...
These are two of her poops from this evening. The one on the towel is about what "normal" looks like for her lately. The second had a bit of the clear discharge with it and was more of a stress poop. She pooped that one as we finished a tube feeding. The normally clear discharge with that poop...
Thank you for your... everything! The Flock-recover stuff looks like it may be relatively new. It was the only product I could find last night that had probiotics and electrolytes that would get here today without me having to go anywhere. The plasma ingredient sounds kind of creepy but...
