Questions: 1. The chickens were sleeping in nesting boxes, so at night I block them, is that okay? 2. I’m just starting to get eggs sporadically, and am wondering if Texas heat delays laying? 3. The chicken that I thought was a rooster, laid this morning’s egg. Am I too dumb to have chickens? LOL!

Good morning from Castroville, Texas! I had the distinct pleasure this morning of watching and listening to the "Layers Song of Joy," just now! Our Barred Rock was "shouting from the rooftops," as someone on BYC commented. We're just starting to get eggs, and it is a slow process. But, my heart is full! I feel so grateful for these beautiful creatures. Thank you, BYC community, for all of your edification!
