Hi, my serama has hatched 10 chicks yesterday. Posted pictures in another thread :)
The thing is... when the chicks try to get under her wings, there is barely enough space for all of them. When the last one is trying to get under her, another one is pushed out. And needless to say - they are...
Here are pictures from her last year hatching, and from this time. I stated on the picture. The mother is in the first picture. Well... I have to say.... we expected something else. We LOVE this serama and we wanted her to hatch her own eggs so we will have more little ones like her in the yard...
Hi, this morning our chicks hatched under a broody - the mother is a serama and these are her own eggs. The father isnt a serama, but another bantam small breed, and he has a pea comb, while the mother has a single comb. Some of the chicks have pea combs, and some have single combs - does it...
Well, good news - the chick hatched and the hen is eating!!
Btw, I have to say that the chicks look way different than the ones she hatched last spring. A different father...
Thank you all!
Thank you all! Finally she had a few bites of hard boiled egg (very few). Didn't drink any water though, but I remember that the egg white has 90% water in it (even if cooked?) So I assume she is fine?
She is in a shady, cool place. No other hens can get to her.
Thank you, she is staying with the chirping eggs now and she isnt interested in moving again, I guess only after her eggs hatch. In the meantime she hasn't eaten/drunk since her break yesterday
Hi! Its day 19 of our eggs under a broody serama. Most of the eggs have pips :). But, the mother didn't eat or drink today (perhaps because of the chicks starting to hatch she went quickly back to the nest after pooping) and I am worried because the weather is pretty hot today. I offered her...
Thank you for your comment. Will it be possible to slide these 2 chicks under the broody hen once her eggs hatch? She will probably not notice, she is a sweetheart. But I take into account that they will already be about 5 days old...
Hi, we have just found two tiny eggs of our seramas in one of the pigeons nests. Probably missed them thinking they are pigeons ones but since they havent hatched yet we doubled checked. Well, the first thing I did was to candle them and they are quite developed - looks like day 14 or 15 to me...
Thank you. Should I candle them outside near the nest or in my house? Its not dark enough outside so I think l will have to put them in a bowl and take them into the house for candling?
Thank you!!
I am planing to candle them when she goes on hee daily break. But - the thing with her is that she takes her breaks in the early morning hour - when its cold.... can I take them out of the warm nest in that case?
Also, when candleing with a flash ligh - is it ok to turn the eggs...
