    BYM chicks weekly progression

Yup, definitely got that from Ronnie (dad/rooster) not that we have any clue what his genetic make up is at all haha Could be, I mean the points on that ones comb have always been a bit bigger. I don't have the feather photos on here but he has noticeably blue/green iridescent feathers which...

    BYM chicks weekly progression

Update week 5-7: 1 is definitely a cockerel and 1 has a mohawk from Dad so will be very interesting to see what happens as that one gets older. Foster mum left the chicks alone to go back to lay at about 4 weeks old. They're doing really well and are slowly integrating themselves into the flock.

Age of first egg lay for your chickens?

We have a mixed flock of large crossbred chickens. We ended up with 4 chicks last year, they have all started laying around 6 months of age. 26 weeks, 28 weeks, 28 weeks and 29 weeks. 3 out of 4 lay eggs consistently between 52g-56g and 1 is still at 44g-45g.

    Blue legs genetics

Interesting terminology I'll have a read up about it, the whole flock is mixed except maybe 1 hen so it'll be a surprise no matter what. Just intriguing genetics wise. Thanks for writing that up, super helpful as I try to get my head around things!

    Blue legs genetics

The Roos barred mix so I'm expecting the chicks to look mostly like him. He has white legs What does the silver gene mean if you don't mind explaining, or linking me to a relevant place to find out. Thank you!
