Yup, definitely got that from Ronnie (dad/rooster) not that we have any clue what his genetic make up is at all haha
Could be, I mean the points on that ones comb have always been a bit bigger. I don't have the feather photos on here but he has noticeably blue/green iridescent feathers which...
Update week 5-7:
1 is definitely a cockerel and 1 has a mohawk from Dad so will be very interesting to see what happens as that one gets older.
Foster mum left the chicks alone to go back to lay at about 4 weeks old.
They're doing really well and are slowly integrating themselves into the flock.
Currently have 3 mixes that I've been taking progress photos of weekly. Thought it might be interesting to keep updating this as they get older.
This is the Rooster and these 3 are the 'mums' not sure which chick belongs to which hen though. They're also being raised by a different hen
All 3...
We have a mixed flock of large crossbred chickens.
We ended up with 4 chicks last year, they have all started laying around 6 months of age.
26 weeks, 28 weeks, 28 weeks and 29 weeks.
3 out of 4 lay eggs consistently between 52g-56g and 1 is still at 44g-45g.
Interesting terminology I'll have a read up about it, the whole flock is mixed except maybe 1 hen so it'll be a surprise no matter what. Just intriguing genetics wise.
Thanks for writing that up, super helpful as I try to get my head around things!
The Roos barred mix so I'm expecting the chicks to look mostly like him. He has white legs
What does the silver gene mean if you don't mind explaining, or linking me to a relevant place to find out.
Thank you!
Kia ora! This is Huginn, we have no idea what she's a mix of because we inherited her.
My question is, as Huginn has blue legs does that in theory mean she carries a Grey/blue gene?
Mostly ask because we may end up with some chicks from her and the actual Grey hen we have may not be laying...
Round 2, not even sure this is an entry but it just happened so i had to share.
I'm also adding to this that I've seen him jump onto objects higher than this gate.
We also keep their food in the garage and as soon as you open the door she follows you in like helloooo feed me first.
Need to invent some sort of invisible barrier
