Yay for your chickens to the rescue!!! Great story. I use a product called Saturday Lime - it's a fine powder that I spread in their coop area and it's great also for flies and ants etc. Bugs hate it. My chickens never have mites.

Thank you. I am pretty worried and really don't see any other way to deal with this other than take her to the bird vet who happens to be really close to me. That will give me peace of mind. She is my favorite one and I love her so much. I will keep you posted! :))

Thank you. I have been giving them 16% Scratch & Peck Organic Layer feed since they started laying. Maybe I should look for a higher protein mix. And I always have the oyster shell available for them.

Hello everyone, and Happy 4th! My Barred Rock chicken of 3 years is mostly laying around these days, limps when walks, and has not been laying eggs. Does anyone have a clue what to do? I am so worried about her.

when you say it lasts several weeks,do you change it out with new bathing dirt?

Mine didn't use it with just dirt from the garden center, so I mixed in some ashes the other day, and they went for it. I keep a large long shallow tub that has a cover and it works great.

You are welcome! It will all work out! Yes, I did cover the hardware cloth with fill dirt, mixed with sand. The chickens will scratch around in it anyway, until they figure out there is nothing to get in there and then they will most likely move on to better peckings. Good luck!
