I’ve had so many accidental roosters… I love having them, but I have had some nasty ones! We hand raise them, so usually they’re very sweet, but I had a BB red bantam one that would practically rip our hands off when we reached into the egg boxes. He was so beautiful, but I guess that breed can...
We got a few interesting bantams there years ago, but this year our TSC only had australorps and a different, common sex link breed if I remember correctly. I’m glad we can order chicks in the mail because I’m usually looking for breeds they don’t carry at TSC. Right now I have an olive egger...

Hi chicken whisperers! My neighbors are having trouble with a hen. She looks like she now has a giant crop/breast and has stopped laying. Other than that, she seems perfectly fine. They haven’t checked her poop, and she’s scratching and drinking just like a normal chicken from my short...
I’m glad to hear the 5/6 hatched fine. I opened mine up to see why they died too and couldn’t really see a reason except for the fact that they know the genes cause mortality. I’m sorry you’re losing any.
@Mama_in_the_Dell Is that a blue egg? Araucanas (and so some Americaunas/Easter eggers) carry a gene that causes chick mortality. It’s awful because the chicks are pretty much grown and can’t pip. I had the same problem when I bred araucanas, and they looked perfectly formed but just died in...
