I am very fortunate that the hen not passing it on is the best of the lot. Better comb quality, more substance and she's a laying machine, very steady with high qualtiy, 60 gram eggs five days a week, rain or shine. There's a lot to like about her so I'll move on with her only in the program.
Thanks for your help! I have two roosters that are whole body red free. One is black, the other blue. Does it matter which I use as long as they don't show a speck of red?
I'm trying to develop a BBS line of birds. What i keep running into is mahogany on the wing bow of the roosters. One splash hen has never produced it out of about a dozen sons raised to maturity, but the other two have. The rooster I used shows zero red at all anywhere on his body. The hens...
I want a few cream/tinted egg layers but I'd prefer to hatch my own. We're already hatching with our GQF, so figure why not? I was thinking about Austra Whites, but I don't have an Australorp Roo. What I do have is a great minded white leghorn roo and a phenomenal laying Australorp hen. She...

Thank you! I appreciate your help! I did purchase some SS hatchign eggs(understanding they're a hybrid, not a "breed") that are now incubating....still don't think I'll be able to see barring even if it exists. LOL Last resort I guess would be to cross a SS roo over a solid color hen and see...
I want to tap into some Splash breeding and found Hoover's has the sapphire splash. I want to think they're going to be homozygous blue versions of the Sapphire Gem, and the last SG roo I got in a shipment turned out to be barred. For what I have in mind, I'd prefer the roo be splash over some...

Today I did a fecal on a young pullet, found just a few oocysts, but then happened across this guy.
I’ve seen mites in dog fecals back in the day when I worked at the vet’s office, but I’ve probably...
